GRP
- The Way Ahead or Maybe not!
After working with all types of oast cowls most
of my life I can honestly say the most problems I
ever have are with GRP. Once fitted for the first
seven to eight years there fine but after that most
of the bolts and fixings rust into a solid mass and
maintenance is impossibility.
We have also found that just washing them down removes
the surface fungi and moss but the black road film
creeps under the top surface of the fibreglass and
even after cleaning the cowl still has a grey look
about it and sometimes the fungi can get right into
the fibreglass mat itself and can't be removed.
We now have so many people calling for maintenance
that they cannot get from the original supplier we
have decided to do a refurbishment package.
We Can;
supply and fit new fingers
supply and fit new motifs
supply and fit new support arms
clean down the cowl inside and out
clean down inside and out then recoat the cowl to
look like new again
The real point is if you want a good cowl that will
last a life time have a real wooden cowl which can
be repaired if needbe but with a fibreglass copy that's
all you get is a copy not the real thing just a plastic
similarity.
